Flowering season 2015

info: in the northern part of the forest, called ‘Nootheide’, trees have been felled this year (wood extraction). Trunks and crowns are lying in various places in that part of the forest and there are piles of firewood along the trails. From 1 March to 30 June however, the wood extraction stops (“schoon” time) and the loggers are not allowed to continue their work. “Schoon” time comes from the German “Schonen” meaning ‘save’, ‘protect’. The “schoon” period helps to protect the vegetation (spring flowers), to ‘save’ and not to disturb the nesting birds.

Finally, the first flowering bluebells. As the daffodils and anemones ten days later than last year. The daffodils are still beautiful. They continue to stand out in the forest because the wood anemones are not yet in full bloom. We won’t see a blue forest full of bluebells the next week. If you come from far away, especially to see the bluebells, it’s best to wait for a visit to the forest.

The daffodils are now at their most beautiful. Everywhere in the forest, like white little stars, wood anemone flowers appear. The weather forecast is not brilliant for the next week. We won’t see a blue forest full of bluebells in March and the first week of April. If you come from far away, especially to see the bluebells, it’s best to wait for a visit to the forest. Probably the best period for bluebells will be the second half of April.

The wild daffodils are coming nicely in bloom.  On the edges of the paths the yellow flowers of the lesser celandine greet the sun. The first wood anemone are flowering, they are still very small.

Spring is really coming. The first wild daffodils are ready to bloom (ten days later than last year).
In recent years, for blooming daffodils, the last week of March is the best period.
