Retention basin for surface water R0

The Brussels-Paris motorway crosses the Hallerbos in the Valley of the Steenputbeek. For years, the runoff water from the region’s border to Pipaenshoek was drained into the Steenputbeek. This had a disastrous effect on the fish fauna and caused heavy erosion at peak flow rates.

To counteract this, in 2008, a retention basin of 1.300 m³ water was built near the Arenberg pond. It catches the water and carries it away through a delivery pipe to the sewage. The Agency for Nature and Forest and the Agency for Roads and Traffic shared the cost.
